Star Wars December 2015 competition
Star Wars is going to be released December 2015, an obvious bit of news everyone has heard, but what other movies are coming out in December. Apparently it was announced that Mission Impossible 5 will be opening December 2015, about a week after Star Wars VII, according to boxofficemojo.com.
I would say the whole last two or three weeks of December is going to be hazardous territory and that any new releases are going to lose some income if they compete with Star Wars. Now, I’m not sure what movies are safe, but I guess kids movies like Christmas cartoons or maybe comedies are good to go in December. However, Mission Impossible 5 has the strength of Tom Cruise, so it could have some staying power. Also, Live By Night, a movie Ben Affleck is directing about the gangster era.
I have no doubt that some of these movies will move. I think this will happen sooner rather than later for action movies close in genre to Star Wars, such as the Warcraft movie. The thing about competition like that is that its easy to move and appeal to all of the audience, instead of just a segment, most of which will go see Star Wars. On the other hand, I think the Christmas season is about the only time that the maximum dollars. Everyone is off work and kids are on vacation. Maybe this is why kids movies do well and January takes a dive. Which December movies are you going to see?
